However, in order to carry out a successful and sustainable vehicle repair in the area of air suspension technology, it is important to observe and comply with some important instructions.

Notes on repairing air spring compressors or air spring systems:

- Read the manufacturer's data and service instructions and proceed accordingly

- Identify the cause of the compressor failure

1. ingress of dirt or moisture into the compressor (very common cause).

• An indicator for this are e.g. rust and dirt deposits on the intake manifold of the compressor and often also loud running noises of the compressor before the failure

• The cause of this can be a porous or defective intake hose, an air filter that is no longer functional or, in exceptional cases, a trip through water that is too deep

• Check the suction hose when replacing the compressor and replace it if necessary. (However, please do not use grease, oil or similar to make it easier to get the hose onto the intake manifold!)

• The air filter should be changed together with the compressor, as it is recommended by some manufacturers, e.g. AMK.

2. Faulty working relay

• Overloading of the compressor, e.g. due to leakage, can lead to failure or invisible damage of the relay.

• Replace the relay with the new compressor. Replacing the relay is mandatory by all vehicle manufacturers when replacing the compressor!

• Make sure that you change the correct relay. Since the relays are similar, there is a high risk of changing the wrong relay

3. No longer functional suspension

• The cause of increased running noise can be the damage of the compressor (point 1) itself, but it can also be caused by a malfunctioning suspension of the compressor

• If necessary, also change the rubbers and springs of the suspension

4. Leakage of the air spring system (most frequent cause)

• Check the system for leaks when or after each compressor repair

• It is best to use the manufacturer's analysis program for this purpose. If you do not have access to the vehicle manufacturer's analysis program, press down the system or the system components individually or search for the leak with soapy water

• The 24-hour test gives you an indicator of the area in which there is a leak. To do this, note the height on the mudguards of the air-supported wheels of the leveled vehicle. Do this again after the vehicle has been at rest for 24 hrs. The leaking circle will cause the vehicle to sag here

• After identifying the leakage, replace the faulty components

• After the repair, make sure that the system is now absolutely tight, otherwise the new compressor will be damaged immediately
