Symptoms of a defective air suspension strut
But what symptoms does a defective air suspension strut show?
One of the most obvious and simplest signs of a defective air suspension strut is the sagging of the vehicle. If one corner sinks more than the other when parked, feels a bit uncontrolled while driving or you have a spongy steering feel, then it is possible that an air suspension strut is damaged. The result is rapid tyre wear, rapid loss of control in certain driving situations and/or longer braking distances.
Another symptom would be a noticeable "metal-on-metal flap". This is because such a "flap" means that the air suspension strut loses its smoothness.
Last but not least, air leaks can also occur on the air struts. Such air leaks occur when the air suspension struts are worn out or damaged. As with air springs, such damage can be determined with the aid of soapy water or leakage spray and potential leaks can be located.
